“Pointlessly complex” – I think the term that Virtual Senpai was looking for was “Rube Goldberg complexity” – he was a cartoonist that achieved some notice nearly 100 years ago in the US, by drawing up ridiculously complex machines and methods, for automating mundane household chores, like turning on a stove and then cracking open an egg and dumping it into a frying pan, in an era when electronics didn’t exist, using purely mechanical devices and basic physics.
