dearmrfrodo1 sent me a replay of him in a Benson and as I watched the replay I was just really happy to watch a destroyer doing nothing more than his job. He capped caps and terminated destroyers with extreme prejudice. While his total damage numbers might not have been amazing, his play was top notch. Enjoy everybody!

Thanks, Chase – excellent tutorial. Explanation of the scoring system was
illuminating. I would add the role of scouting, particularly in a game with
no carriers. But that is very dangerous – your team has to back you up. Had
one game where a BB captain specifically directed the DDs to scout – I
dutifully forged out, spotted enemy cruisers and battleships and promptly
got focused and eliminated.
in my experience every player thats on my team is a donky. i played wows
after a long break and in 8-10 battles i lost all of them. yea i was rusty,
but wtf. i dont get it, its like oh hey… pauls playing… lets not go
past the b line and uh huuck lets bunch up and give em the caps… by the
end of it i was pulling my hair out. rage quit after two bbs said work
together and be a little aggressive then let me get focused while they
sniped. facepalm. If theres good players out there, where are
youuuuuuu?????
Totally agreed. I use my concealment to hunt other destroyers in a Kagero.
My priorities are: cap, scout and torp if there is a opportunity.
I am guessing it is this…
Highest Score
Experience 2,955
Damage caused 113,922
Warships destroyed 5
Good video, now how about a Mutsuki/Hatsuharu guide… seeing as they are
vastly different from the predecessors and lack the torpedoes of their
successors.
Hi iChase, why some Bensons has 18600 HP? My has 15400. Thank’s
I had a minikaze game with 6 near full health kills 4 BBs 2 CVs 180k dmg
with a win but only got 2200 xp because they were T4s… great result
overall but the xp derp gutted me.
japanese dd´s useless in a gunfight.
yesterday in my shimakaze,a gearing killed me from full to zero in under
14seconds with use of aimbot maybe warpack aimbot .
6-7sec. reload vs nearly 0….hopeless!
only torps thats all i have, and useless guns without a fair reload without
a fair range and without any aczepable dispersions & rotation, useless
aa………
dearmrfrodo1 carried the whole team to victory and gets reminded in chat’s
last comment he should “pay attention to the game”… you gotta love such
teammates :)
Great game. Important lessons. Way to help the team.
I would like to ask a question. Chase said that BBs should lead pushes. As
a BB player I agree, but the question is:should the BB spearhead the push
at the risk of getting torped by DDs or should the cruisers spearhead the
push screening for DDs while the BBs shoot the targets?
I am asking this because I see a lot of pissed CL/CA captains complaining
about BBs staying in the back sniping and I agree with then to some point.
Even if I play IJN battleships I like to be close to the action and shoot
stuff in gunnery duels BUT I don’t like to lead a charge and have the
cruisers stay behind me and then get torped by a DD that I did not see nor
had any clues that he was there.
its crazy how many DD’s don’t do this, its so frustrating, I still cap in
my IJN DD i just try not to battle other DD’s much, drop smoke/torps and a
couple gun salvo’s…don’t forget spotting when playing standard mode and
area denial with torps.
Not a mention of the role of scouting? May not earn XP but it is invaluable
for CA captains supporting you especially on Standard maps with no CVs to
provide that Intel.
This guy asks for help and shows where the enemies are, warns torpedoes of
being in close range. Gets told to stfu lol
lol, because I own an Atlanta for the express purpose of training my USN DD
captain – right now, I have Advanced Firing Training, and am currently
about 40k experience on the Farragut towards the Mahan. And I gotta say, it
is pretty batshit to be able to fire out to 15.4km!
Many people say having that much range is useless, and I would agree for
the most part, but then I would also disagree!
Because not only can I stealth fire during the opening salvos, and not even
get spotted, but I can fire over mountains with ease, and hitting MOST
Battleships, especially at tier 6 or 7 at 15km is actually surprisingly
easy!
Also, whenever I am hiding in smoke, unless I happen to be hiding behind a
tall mountain as well or way outside of the main engagement; I can ALWAYS
fire at something and often hit it!
Because when hiding in smoke, even if your shots aren’t likely to hit due
to range, if there are no other targets, you are wasting time!
That doesn’t even include the AWESOME “Herding Effect” you can cause!
Again, even if my shells are missing the reason they normally miss is
because the target is actively turning and changing speed! Against
battleships, this effect is priceless, as you can keep their guns from
pointing at teammates entirely!
And if a target does not react to the constant stream of 127mm HE rain,
well they get BURNT! And if they are foolhardy enough to push it towards my
smoke, they usually eat at least a couple torpedoes to the face!
Really, it is quite similar though nowhere near as deadly and unavoidable –
as when and how you showed off the Russian Destroyers back before they were
released and were incredibly OP!
So, personally, while I didn’t initially believe that I would keep AFT on
my USN DD captain, currently – I cannot see a good reason to ever swap it
out!
I mean 13.3km range on the Gearing with both the concealment module as well
as concealment expertise skill – you got a deadly gunboat that can herd and
hold back entire fronts without being seen! And really, hitting Battleships
from that range really is no problem!

I honestly feel like people not doing there job in random battles is the
downside of team battles. I have not seen any of the players that I use to
consider as really good players in a long time. The few that I have played
with recently say they have been doing team battles mostly. Most of the
players are left in random battles are the less experienced players.
I Like his captain skills, I’ll have to tryout the T4 Survivability perk on
my Benson. 18k hit points would be nice.
Capping gives you sooo much EXP by now.
If you cap just one point and then get sunk, you will probably still be in
the middle of your team in terms of Exp.
Capping 2, let alone 3 times will likely put you on first.
text book playing by him, not so by others 😉
it often happens if you play your role and others dont and you tell them
you here “youre dead so whos the one that is the noob”… happens more and
more often because – playerbase today. my win rate score is melting down in
random battles like crazy because of… mostly BBs hiding until every1 else
is dead and they got detected
Great video Chase, you should do something like this for all the classes.
The biggest aggravation for me in the game is not having team mates in
cruisers support me when I’m going for caps and/or run across enemy dds.
Also to support you point about exp, most players yet have figured out that
capping and defending bases gives HUGE exp bonuses. Case in point, I
recently had a game in my Hatsuharu on the Two Brothers map. At mid way
through the battle our team was outnumbered 2 to 1 and it looked like an
inevitable loss. However, between me running around and capping and the
heroic play of another team mate in a Battleship who fought a rearguard
action at cap C, we managed to pull out a win even though the team still
had more ships than us because we capped them out. At the end of the game,
the BB player had Kracken, High Caliber, Dreadnought, Confederate, etc etc.
I had less than 10k damage done, all with my guns, as none of my torps
managed to find their marks the entire game, but I did have 4 or 5 base
caps and a couple base defenses. Guess who had more exp at the end of the
game? It wasn’t the BB player. I beat him out with just under 100 more exp
at 2420 base exp. For dds, it’s well worth getting those bases more than
trying to deal damage.
scouting in CV’s gives no exp :(
tbh, I’ve always gone Japanese destroyers due to torp range, but hey… I
still beat US, USSR destroyers into a corner, I also hunt cruisers and BBs.
It’s just… something about the thrill of the hunt.
This Benson saved the Game !!! His Team played like potatos IT was 460 to
830 to the enemy team… Lock at the points and to the MAP all you potatos
BB capitans!,, one DD cant kill everything and Caap Alone Wille you BBs
Camp at back and try to snipe… Full HP BB at the end of the game is
drivning me nuts !!! IF you do IT in My team i may comeback and torp you !!
hehe, too many times I’ve had to say “wtb non-suicidal CLs and DDs” and it
still doesn’t work.
Chase, a special request. Soon we will see the first people completing the
captain extraction mission, and I would like to know what you advice for
those captains is. I know you made a video for the captain skills with
recommendations, but those were for tier 10.
What your talking about is exactly right! I suspected that that was how it
works but i was never sure.
I think though WG or maybe some of the player created how to tutorials need
to focus on what you where saying about how you earn Exp because there
isn’t enough info out there on the topic.
I also think that Winning should be made far less important to Exp gained
then actually doing your job. The difference between Exp earned when you
win and Exp earned when you lose should only be in the range of like 5% or
even less. Now I say this because as you also said in the video you have
had a lot of games where players don’t do the job they are meant to do and
in a few of those you would have lost the game. Unless you earn an
achievement (unless this has been changed but i think it hasn’t) you lose
almost half the Exp you would have gotten if you won. The problem I have
with this is it rewards Bots and Players who have to be carried way to much
if you win, because they get nearly twice the exp they deserved, while at
the same time punishing the players who did well on the losing side that
did their jobs by cutting the exp earned by anywhere from 30%-40% (at least
that’s how it has looked in games where I have had similar performances but
lost one and won the other)
Doesn’t matter if the win reward is huge or tiny players will still want to
win just because. Making the game reward performance not wins will help
stop the bots and teaching players how to gain more exp will only help them
get better.
iChase thank you for the information about how XP is calculated. Is there
an steady increase in xp earned with the % of HP taken (i.e. 1%= 1xp and
80% = 80xp) or is it curved? (1%=1xp and 80%=150xp?). The reason i’m
wondering this is when i’m in a carrier and i’m trying to play my role i
often have to take chunks of health from a few bold ships on the west side
then a few chunks of health from out of position ships on the east side
etc….so by doing that i get (for example) 20% off of different ships.
would my time be better suited attempting to take down a whole ship?
Well he does have planes over him so he’s spotted even without firing at
the Pensacola. It’s just a choice of dealing as much damage as possible and
hopefully kill the Pensacola before he gets killed over, or stay there and
hope the Pensacola tunnel vision enough to not shoot at him until he caps.
well, if he use ap at the Pensacola, he would have a chance to kick him out
whatever, really a good job

lol I think I hear some kind of cute little notification sound in the
background~
I’m playing the Fubuki (starting with the Kagero soon) and I’ve stoped at
the B-hull because I like to have those two extra guns. I did the same with
the Benson and the Omaha. This have saved me many time when I got spotted
and ended up in a knifefight. P.S. My all time high XP was in the Fubuki,
4172 base XP. D.S.
That enemy benson should have stayed in the smoke i dont know what he was
thinking
Thank you for the video chase, this really stresses a point that is
frequently overlooked by most players, including myself half a year ago. I
used to yolo rush way too often, getting high damage numbers and then
wondering why I lost the match. Ever since I’ve started to closely observe
your videos, I’ve started to focus on the objectives, playing to the ships’
role and gaining map control. My win rate (as well as k/d, avg. damage,
matches survived) has improved considerably.
Chase this was a very imformative video. I reccomend making videos similar
to these, for instance, not commonly known facts or tips that can help
players improve themselves, such as this video here. Great video!
He is ryt though doing you job does net the wins and exp, but i disagree
jap destroyers dont have a disadvantage against other destroyers because
just 1 torp can kill an enemy destroyer u just have to use it correctly, by
using a web style in launching your torps you’de be surprised how many
people panic when they see a wall of well placed torps. Im a cruiser and
destroyer main player and doing your job is the best way to win a game
2955 is his highest XP in the Benson according to his player profile and
I’m assuming this would be it as his kills were mostly DDs plus capping.
STOP FUCKING AIMING HE AT THE WATERLINE!
Great info. Keep them coming.
Did he gg himself?
Hihi…a big fan of your videos….just wondering could you feature RU DDs
like Udaloi and Kharbarovsk?
world of warships has been so frustrating lately. You could be the best
player ever, but if you get a side that plays like lemmings… 🙁
Simple skills like reading the map are missing from like 90% of the player
base.
Seems a large chunk of games doesn’t matter what I do, 5 minutes in I’m 1
of only 2-3 friendly left and only kills are mine..
your cruiser was tunnel visioned on a BB? You’re lucky. My “allies”, on
the first sighting of anything DD related, will 100% of the time turn and
run for the nearest map border. My carrier captain has had to learn the
finer points of torpedoing DDs just to stay competitive :(
Thought I d share this.I unlocked both benson and fubuki at the same
day.You cant really do what chase says here as a fubuki with this player
base (EU servers).I can spent 5 mins spotting a dd and pinging it and no
cruiser gives a shit. You cant beat a US/Rus dd to get a cap(maybe you can
do a torp kill and die too), so without support all you can do is stealth
torp things or maybe contest it in smoke and watch while noone comes to
help ;p.And thats why I love the Benson more so far.Since I always cap like
crazy, I can fight the dd I meet there with a Benson.Hell I ve been doing
it with captain retraining so no detection warning.I am a bit frustrated
right now at the player base, I am at the 14th defeat in a row, and only
one of em you could call an enjoyable close match. The rest were half our
fleet dead in 5 mins.90% of those games you could look at the map 3 mins
after game started and know you d lose.Being new to tier 8 I thought
players would be smarter especially since I meet tier 10s now.Yet they play
like they are tier 3.I think I ll only watch videos for a while…Excellent
play frodo, I think he only fired and died because those planes spotted him
anyway.
I Don’t Know My Job With Ships So I’ll Just Wing It. Tanks But No Tanks.
Well , thank you chase . This video got me to thought about how I play and
how I can or should improve that and I really have found some really big
issues. So again ; thank you ^^
Love ur videos ?want some tips on the Japanese BB
3:20 I get more kills with my guns in my hatsuharu (mostly shooting other
DDs) than my torpedos aimed at bigger ships, so formerly fuck that notion
first
