For the longest time, IR17;ve avoided playing CV, since I honestly wasn’t any good at it. But we’re approaching 500 souls who’re following this channel, so it’s about bloody time I go and “git gud”.

The farthest I’ve gotten in the carrier line was the Independence……and I’m not going any further
I hope Kremlin isn’t as stupid as in the pc game. It is insanely accurate, tankier than GK, op aa, fast, excellent reload, completely broken. Guns only 3 mm smaller than Yamatos. Because of overmatch, that makes a difference in pc but it wouldn’t on blitz.
@Nathan Andrews yea I haven’t seen much Russian bias in wows blitz. So hopefully if they do add Soviet BBs they will be well balanced and no op like they are on PC
We’ll just cross our fingers.
if anything, the Soviet DDs are harder to play than most others, the Soviet BBs so far have been average, and while the CAs are good, they’re no longer the only HE spammers in the game. We might have a chance to dodge the bias 🙂
@Fun and games with Terry i really hope we can Dodge the Russian bias. I literally stopped playing wows on the PC because of the level of Russian bias…………. Especially with the Smolensk
I’m learning this CV game also, I won an Enterprise so have also been running ‘drills’ in AI mode… It’s a good way to learn cause/effect withought blowing my league points & good name to hell?
I often try out new ships against bots, especially higher tiers, before I buy modules. It’s a good way to do research.
Super cool you won the Enterprise! I’ve got my eye on that for the future
@Dean it’s a great t8 CV ?
I got a gun kill also… with Hosho???I think I’m missing the CV point but hey ?
Oooh, you should try the Graf Zeppelin, if you have a chance – she’s basically a light cruiser, which happens to have planes on it 🙂
@Fun and games with Terry I’ve always wished they fixed the Lexington model. WoWb shows Saratoga 1942 on. My point here is how cool would a ‘Lexington’ with the original 8″ twin turrets.
Saratoga, or Lexi’s 42 refit? Haven’t looked into it, but 200mm cruiser guns on a CV might have been a bit OP 🙂 Closest we get is the Zeppelin.
@Fun and games with Terry they eventually removed the 8″ guns as the shock wave of firing REALLY messed up the whole aircraft instrument precision thing?…
Not gonna lie, I “wasted” a captain on this ship and I’m forever keeping it on the ship. ?
I have heaps of USN captains around, for some reason, so I had one to spare 🙂

I just started the grind as a cv player and its so slow at langley and bogue. You get like 700 xp. But from my short experience from playing cv’s i don’t really like the dive bombers because they tend to miss alot but the torpedoes bombers are really good and do good damage to anything.
I find it hard to carry in this thing – as you said, her dive bombers are rather unreliable, especially against smaller targets. From memory, the IJN CVs started out with torpedo bombers from the get-go. But I’m enjoying myself so far, we’ll see what the next tier brings.
Yeah the bogue is much more enjoyable. She’s a really slow ship though so if a dd slips through you can say bye bye.
I used to be the same way Terry, I never played carriers but I recently started playing them again and I’ve managed to learn how to play somewhat well. Up to the Hiryu and Independence
Hiryu was a very long time ago for me, and I really sucked at it, so I gave up on CVs 🙂
Yeah I’ve stopped there for now and I’m focusing on grinding the Independence. The Hiryu is definitely a jump in difficulty with the two torpedo bomber squadrons. I can’t imagine what it’s like to play a Kaga with three torp squads
I know, it feels like another level of cognitive load – but maybe it’s just a matter of practice, we’ll see 🙂
TBH I think I should’ve went for Japanese CVs cuz the American ones are too boring, not enough squadrons
I went up the Hiryu long time ago, but it was just too hectic for me to control the various squadrons. We’ll see how the USN CV line plays out, I’ll probably make it at least up to tier 6.
@Fun and games with Terry I’m on American tier 6 independence now and it’s not looking that interesting for tier 7 and 8. They all just have one squadron of each type and slightly more planes in each squadron as the tier gets higher.??
@POPCORN Joe unfortunately, you’ll have to wait till Essex for a great USN carrier (Lexington is meh). With the Essex, you can time your dive bomber strikes as to get permanent fires–on paper, the 2 dive bomber squadrons from Zuiho on can do so, but IJN dive bomber RNG doesn’t get good until Taiho.
God the Carrier sniping is horrid for me
it’s irritating, since there’s no AA. I usually open up the distance, and keep hitting the enemy ships closest to me. That way, they’ve got a longer flight time, and they’re not harming my team. It’s not a very viable tactic, unless you can pull it off in a short time. Personally, I don’t usually do it, unless they’re overextending
Thanks for going out of your comfort zone to make this! I’m just now grinding CV’s for the first time, and actually at the Langley! It is the only CV I have commanded, as upon the advice of several more experienced players I am stopping at T4 to gain experience and battles. I’m glad the accuracy of the Langley and the difficulty hitting DD’s isn’t typical. I am learning and following the good advice of players such as yourself, staying close and not carrier sniping. Its just so frustrating to be sniped, even when you put out much more damage than the red’s CV. I do have a question, due to the improved AA in later tiers, and the decreasing presence of noobs, does the AA of friendlies nearby and the across the map help curb carrier sniping? Also, should I be trying to dive bomb vow to stern? Thanks
I’m still very much learning the ropes of CV play myself. In higher tiers, from what I’ve seen, with both CVs and other ships being much more AA capable, sniping isn’t really a good move, unless maybe the CV is reckless and isolates themselves. Still, in upper tiers spotting alone is so much more important – knowing what ships you’re facing at which cap can make a huge difference.
Dive bombers are targeting automatically, you just need to point them at a ship. I don’t know if the approach vector makes any difference – given that they seem to be flying in a “V” formation, my guess would be it probably doesn’t matter, but that’s an interesting thought. I’ll do some research on that.
Langley is a gud fire farmer for lower tiers, but too dependent on RNG
Yes, I’m looking forward to have torpedo planes. Certainly can’t carry in this thing, but there are still tactical advantages you can get, like finishing off low-health ships that are retreating.
I wish i could play with him I never kill Youtubers in my while life But actually i played with 2 famous youtubers Called. Battle of warships naval style 12Love And Bohomam.
I’m on the NA server, so if you see [HVY]Terry in game, that’s me 🙂
@Fun and games with Terry Umm do you own the fleet ur in? If you do can i join I’m gonna abandon my own fleet just for you.
Yes, that’s my fleet, back from the day when you still had to pay 2000 gold to create one 🙂 It’s a bit tricky in terms of divisions, since I’m in Australia, so timezones don’t always overlap, but we’ve got some active players in US timezones as well. You’re always welcome.
@Fun and games with Terry well that’s good I’m going to Sydney for christmas because I’m only from the Philippines.
@Insane Shape Shifter oh, where from in the Philippines?
Midway was my first t10 and now at t8 in ijn cv line.. i mostly play cl & bb.. not so much cv / dd but i can tell you lexington is great fire starter, ijn can delete dd or stuff with the torps eez
Lowtier cv is boring grind, cv sniper kids are annoying and still lose every time t6 usa cv is kinda ok.. t8 starts to be good, but use fighter module and bombs elite t6+ on all usa cv Commander skill for fighter eff , return speed and bomb dispersion are very much needed on all 2. & 3. slot small cal aa & aa range, in teamplay you stay close and you want to pull enemy fighters towards you, so aa helps, fire res and manouver is poor anyways..detection range? You got planes you use for spotting ?
Saipan and enterprise are the go to for skirmish, but most dont know what to do with fighters ?? Enterprise has aa ship skill, but i wouldnt go for the commander skill .. not that useful since you got op fighter plus massiv aa plus friendly aa..
You can keep moving when opening team window or plane view, but not always useful ? Send fighter long way, when enemy fighter lock on hit return to cv, in aa range let them patrol / engage in fight Torp bomber on dd‘s i let them get close, hit return and aim again, they drop faster
Thanks, good stuff! I’ll have to try the torp bomber return / reaim one, if that avoids the “cycle back and go for new approach” loop, that’d be amazing, not just against DDs.
Hey terry because of saipen i m loose every match with Ranger. Can help me?
given that I haven’t played either, mostly theoretical – what is it that the Saipan does that makes you lose? Shoot down your planes, carrier snipe etc?
I have Lexington in the American line. She has great guns and can handle herself very well in a dogfight against destroyers. Downside with Lady Lex is that it takes forever for her planes to get ready to fly again. I also got Enterprise. Enterprise does have AA consumables. I’ve turned mine into a floating AA platform. Whole squadrons sent to attack my E boat fail to deliver their cargo.
@Max Spy no. Got enough tokens from crates during event.
I don’t have the Enterprise myself, only got up to 15 tokens, I think. IDK how prevalent carrier sniping is in higher tiers, but having a decent AA sure can’t hurt 🙂
@Fun and games with Terry Decent AA and two squadrons of fighters. Also if there’s a North Carolina or American cruiser on my team I stay close to them for a while. When you get to higher tiers and start seeing Kagas, grouping up high AA defense ships becomes vital to survival. A Kaga will make quick work of someone going by themself.
Yes, I’ve been at the receiving end of a Kaga more than once. Unless I’m in a dedicated AA ship, that’s not a great experience. Brooklyn felt a bit meh in terms of AA, but the Cleveland is much more capable. Great if you get one of those things to actually play their role and support you 🙂
@Fun and games with Terry I got my ass beaten by everything from a torpedo magnet to a shitty destroyer
USS Langley is bad
what do you dislike about her, in particular? (not that I don’t agree, she’s certainly not a ship I could carry in… pun intended)
Pleeeeeaaaaassssseee get the admiral Graf spee
review is in the making
Thank u so much Terry ur the best
+1 please and thank you
Your carrier videos are my favourite! I fall off my chair laughing. But fully agreed in terms of the multi tasking bit associated with playing carriers.i send my bombers of scouting then promptly forget about them and bomb fishes. I ROCK carriers…..not
hehehe, at least I can provide some entertainment. I’ll keep some fail footage around while I learn, so I can do a compilation at some point. I’ve bombed / torped my fair share of fishes 🙂
