  1. I will always say that if this ship came out as Russian people would lose their shit over. I don’t think it’s OP. But my god this thing is strong.

    • i’d say more of “was” strong. but so much overmatch in every lobby means DM can’t step out from the island at all without being turned into cheese even bow on.

    • @Zachary Redmon well, armor was never DM’s thing right?

  2. Des Moines is way better as AP shooter imo. Always feel a little dirty if I constantly use HE

    • Sea Lord Mountbatten

@Jeff Allen I literally say the AP is better within the first 2 minutes or so. The reload time makes it to where you can utilize both to great effect. This ship had the best reload on a TX cruiser for a VERY long time. Hence the name of the video

    • @Sea Lord Mountbatten and using Halsey you have near instant he to ap switching.

    • @Sea Lord Mountbatten name of the video is HE spammer… not AP spammer.

    • @Sea Lord Mountbatten when someone mentions “HE spammer” last ship I’m thinking of is the DM! LMAO!

      Keep trying!

  3. We didn’t call old Zao the flamethrower for nothing!

  4. Bubba the lone Potato

Of course we used our tier VIII premium to help grind out the Des Moines, before we had a clue how to play it. Hiding behind islands and spamming HE was a way of life. For some of us, it still is.

  5. I feel like that Salem, NC fight at around 7 mins was a throw from your side tbh. That was an easy pick up.

  6. I don’t recall the DM being considered the original HE spammer, usually the DM was known as an island hugger in the day. The IJN Zao has a slower reload but with flags could be counted on to set a high number of fires per match, so it was usually considered the fire starting cruiser.

    • but its true DM never was called HE spammer

    • @Malgus Kerensky LOL!

    • Krzysztof Narloch

@Sea Lord Mountbatten the problem is putting “ORIGINAL” in that title. When you first faced Des people are telling you to angle more dont show sides not because its spamming you with HE but cause it has killer AP. Thats what the whole line is known for insanly strong AP shells with desmoin cranking those shells another 100%.

On the other hand Zao was always known for its HE and its firestarting potential. It was mainly due to the fact that the japanese cruiser guns were very innacurate. People hardly used its AP shells cause you might score a random citadel while rest of the shells will be overpens. It forces people to focus on HE and it was fairly common for Zao to score 2-3 fires with a single salvo due to the dispersion. 2 or 3 years ago it was fixed with WG changing parameters of all IJN 203mm guns. Now they are super accurate so they set less fires and also people started using AP more.

And also another point about orginal HE spammer…. Do you remember what was the nickname of Conqueror?? It was called MEGA ZAO for a reason ^^

    • @Sea Lord Mountbatten sure. I refer to your title The origial though “. and i might rember wrong, but back in the days (btw zao was my first t10), i cant remember DM being as spammy as Zao. i probaly shot 98% HE with zao, while DM was more an AP shooter with temporarily HE spam. therfore , for me, Zao was a spsmmer , DM not.

  7. Stefano Crosazzo

Old Cleveland was probably the most broken ship in the game

  8. since no one mentioned it (^^): THE original HE spammer was the firestarter: ZAO. 90% of the time it was shooting HE, only in ninja- and endgame situations you were using AP, whereas DM never used 90 % HE if i remember correctly.

  9. It’s an absurd rate of fire for a 203 gun, considering pretty much all other heavy cruisers have at least double its reload time.

  10. Des Moine is lots of fun, wen armsrace were around with all buffs and procs I had 2.4 reload on it ^^

  11. I feel like the DM is still my favorite ship in the entire game. It’s still just so much fun to play. I wish they could go back to introducing more ships like this

  12. Sargis Shirinyan

Range mod DM + spotter plane = fun times

  13. I reviewed the lineups for the Team League tournament (prep for the current CB season being both 7v7), finals and semis and Salem wasn’t used once. I saw some Salems in the prelims but strictly Des Moines for semis and finals and, I think, quarter finals as well, though I would have to double check myself on that. It seems the Des Moines radar range carried more weight than the Salems enhanced heal. Saying the Des Moines is more suited to Randoms than competitive is not supported by the stats based on Team League, or KoTS for that manner. Not sure how you can make a determination with the limited experience with the ship.

  14. Stephan Makintaya

Salem heal is not as strong as often depicted… yes its good…. but it has limitations, especially since it is relatively easily overmatched and citadelled. PQ made a good video that explains this quite well.

  15. I thought you were going to talk about T6 Cleveland, pound for pound the best ship this game has ever seen.

  16. The real original HE Spammer was the Khabarovsk, when early in the game it was doing invisible firing on BBs. This was adjusted later on by having your detection range matching your firing range. Was a pure delight to annoy the BBs without a need to have island cover. One can argue it is a light cruiser.

  17. I would have called the Atlanta the first true HE spammer. Fires way faster than Des Moines and Zao.

  18. Today I had the honor of being sunk by you sir on a clan war. Nice mighty push, we were trying out new clan’s members

  19. Des Moine was my first Tier 10 and is still my favourite ship. You can get blapped. However, you can have a big impact on any games that have CAPS to capture and islands.
