I went down the British line when I first started…mainly because I’m British…I like to brawl.
Being from Canada I also immediately went for British BBs despite wanting to brawl. I’ve learned to just be content with renown as she’s as close as you’ll get in a tier where you won’t be punished very hard for misplays
@@davidlennyman444 I’d never say the British Battlecruisers are good brawlers, BUT – They do have those disgusting little gyroscoping torpedoes that do very well in close encounters. Combined with their ridiculous damage and you got yourself a little pocket dev strike.
I sec built my vincent and it kinda works lmao
if you want some fun grab a German BB and go brawling
I think Brawlers are the hardest to play because you need to understand which time to start brawling!
Yep it requires iq
You’ll never be a brawler if you are playing on Asia server

It depends, if you have a solid team you can start off right behind your DD and get up in the action. Many players still hate to have secondaries raining on them and run and hide, so as long as you have support you can push early. No support and get focused on, you’re dead. I like the main line German BBs for this reason, they’re more tanky and if you push a bit to soon you can survive a bit longer with hope support follows your sacrifice.
Awesome, just what I was looking for.
Great Vid. I wish i had started on BB’s but nooo, I had to do cruisers. Big mistake 😂
Great description of all the lines!
This is an awesome video and very helpful!
It would be great if you could make a similar video for other ship types, destroyers and cruisers at least.
Great overall Battleship review! My personal favorites: USN Primary BB line (typical armored, decent speed, good guns), IJN Primary BB line (Solid speed, ok armor, longer range play style, kiting ships), RN Secondary Line (torps and guns, weaker armor, fast, medium range), German Secondary Line (brawl, fast ships, weaker armor, and torps)
I finished grinding the British lines a little while ago, and the one thing that I kept thinking was that the secondary line was actually better overall than the main line. Regarding the torps, once in a while you get something with them, but since you have to be pretty much broadside in some tiers or only have one in the upper, I often felt like it fell into the “why did you bother?” category. I don’t know about the upper tiers of IJN ships (I haven’t ground that far up), but at least through tier 7, they’re my least favorite line.
IJN BBs are good if you stay far away and can actually hit something but as soon as you get close they suffer@@Norbrookc
@@paddington1670 It’s the “can actually hit something” that’s the problem at any range.
@@Norbrookc With IJN main line, until tier 9-10, you want to always be moving, so you may miss more shots. You want to kite tier 7 and lower ships, try to get the rear turrets involved even at the expense of the front turrets. Sneak in those broadsides off and then cut the rudder over hard; while at 15+ km away from the main battle. Yes you tend to miss a bit more, but the guns are more long range and quicker to fire to cover up the dispersion issues.
I didn’t mind playing the Colorado that much when I got it, but what I did mind was how *much* you have to play the Colorado. It’s the only one where you have to grind a lot for not just one, but two extra battleship lines.
Yes they should buff this thing already.
@@R4ZORLIGHT I’d prefer if they’d shift the hybrids to another ship. It’s one thing to grind the over 100K for the main line, and then again for the second line, but then you have to do it all over again for the third line? I have more than enough free XP to jump the line, but then again, I haven’t heard much good from other players about the hybrids.
I actually like my Colorado, the New Mexico on the other had sux!
@@broccanmacronain457 I rather like it myself. As I said, the only thing that irritates me is that when (or if) you try to grind the other tech lines in the American BB’s, you have to start back at 0 with it for the next line…twice.
“Battleships? never had any use for em. *Didn’t say I didn’t know how to Use em.” Admiral Quigley
Timing is essential for brawling, that’s correct.
Start to early, and you’re going to be ripped apart by everyone and their mom’s focus fire.
Start too late, and theres not much left over, since everyone is behind an island,or fleeing.
Somewhere in between, there’s a sweet spot, when Enemy DD s entering caps, and Enemy team tries to push..
Sometimes the “psychological effect”of a full seccondary built German Bb,is enough to make em overthink their decision 😂
Still at the over aggressive, solo target phase myself.
I actually like Schleiffen, and have pretty good luck in it. The Preussen line, however I found really painful.
I really think they shout tweak the American BB lines, now what I mean by that is make the spilt come off of the New Mex. Colorado being the first ship in the Fattleships, add a proto NC 3×3 14″ guns for the fast BB line, and the Avation BB line coming off of the NC line.
I’ve been playing since beta and only recently have I finished the Montana and Yamato lines. I was dreading Izumo, but I really enjoyed grinding it. I was still glad to finally get the Yamato though. And while I do have Satsuma, I think I enjoy Yamato more.
German BBs all the way for brawling, with an occasional Massachusetts if I’m in an “Anchors Aweigh” mood.
As a German BB main I notice too many other BBs sitting behind islands doing nothing. Don’t understand the mindset of parking behind a mountain where you can’t shoot anything your DD spots. Really frustrating when there are multiple ships parked behind the island for AA support but still not helping. Best way to use islands is just to break LOS right after firing and circling back over and over. Not trying to park on the beach.
I always had a bone to pick with how the British battleships were portrayed in the game. The whole Royal Navy doctrine was to have heavier armour to get in close to the enemy, sacrificing speed (while in game they get smashed for showing even a little bit of ankle). That’s why they are generally slower than other contemporary ships like the Richelieu, Littorio, Iowa, etc. Their AP in real life was actually really good compared to the pathetic shells we see in game (in relation to pen).
agreed, most british battleships were slow but very heavily armored, and had excellent ap.
@@st3gosaurus Yeah, the KGVs had a 15 inch belt at the waterline. The only belt in WW2 that was thicker than that was Yamato’s 16 inch belt yet in WOWS the KGV is a pancake.
Cope
i love alsace , i use a mixte of main gun and increase of secondary range ( just to use the CC reload time on main gun)
I accidentally stumbled into the British Battlecruiser line. I took a very long hiatus from the game and got the Tiger for free as a “Welcome Back” present. Decided to try it before I sold it and loved it. I never would have given it a shot otherwise (gave up on the main British line at the Orion) but I’m so glad they prompted me to try it.
Battleships peak at tier 8. Once you hit 9 and 10 theres so many auto loading smoke and hill hiders that your just an xp and damage pinata feeding everyone else. Hence why theres such a passive long range meta, approaching anywhere near the halfway line at top tier just gets you perma spotted and burned/torped down and you cant do anything about it.
