A replay submitted by PopescuB, not a very flashy battle by any stretch of the imagination, but the base EXP is absolutely beautiful. I tend to see a lot of cruiser players trying to hunt for a lot of damage by spending a lot of time engaging BBs, when they could gain the same amount of EXP by killing DDs. Cruiser play is sometimes quite similar to how cruisers would function in real life, fight where you have the advantage, slip past slow but powerful enemy ships and take objectives when you can. Anyways, enjoy this battle folks 🙂

when and why one should use the foward or mid cam view in binocular view?
Pensacola is one of my favorite ships. It takes passive/aggressive plays at
the right times. I feel one of the biggest mistakes Pensacola captains make
is they are too aggressive at the start of the match and put themselves in
a situation to show their broadside. Also I feel we miss out on what the
role of the Pensacola is. I personally feel it is first a Cruiser vs
Cruiser ship, then a supporting against airplanes, Destroyers and
Battleships ship. To each their own though. Good video!
Excellent point made there iChase. Damage farming isn’t always what gets
you the highest base xp. Have been seeing that in my Taiho games where I
sink 4 destroyers, essentially assist my team but end up scoring less than
60k damage. Still base xp is usually higher than the rest of the team,
because you end up helping everyone! Also really helpful vid! I assume the
same playstyle goes for the New Orleans?
that secondary-kill was pretty cool :)
I really don’t know if should skip this ship or not…i’m tempted to
10:34 ANYONE who believes that the Gearing is a weak ship – based PURELY
off of AVERAGE BATTLE STATISTICS – and more specifically, the amount of
Damage done in the AVERAGE battle in the Gearing, well let them believe
that!
Then there will be ever more Shimas to hunt when I DO have MY Gearing!
But seriously, to look at AVERAGE battle statistics, you also must realize
that over 50% percent of players are going to have a lower than 50% win
rate in their Gearing.
And you must ALSO account for the fact, that BASED on the popularity of the
Shima, many people that OWN a Gearing, likely owned a Shima first, and if
they even TRY to play a Gearing like a Shima, they WILL NOT do anywhere
near the damage they would have in a Shima!
I feel like I will be amazing with the Gearing by the time I get it.
Because before I got my Mahan, I would RARELY ever use the torpedoes in my
Farragut, instead relying on guns and offensive smoke! Because I own an
Atlanta I have AFT! And despite the MANY people I hear saying “Having more
than 13km range with the USN 127mm guns is absolutely pointless!” – Well I
would VERY STRONGLY DISAGREE! Towards the end of my Farragut grind, I was
averaging about 45k damage!
When sitting in offensive smoke (a smoke cloud laid in an area where your
teammates have spotted everything) – having 15.4km range in my Farragut
allowed me to hound EVERYTHING almost non stop, especially battleships!
Because while it is QUITE hard to hit anything other than a BB or CV at
14km and above, it is not at all impossible. It WOULD be impractical to
shoot at ANYTHING beyond about 12.5km when you are moving and trying to
dodge any return fire, but when sitting in smoke TOTALLY safe, you can
afford to miss quite a few salvos in order to walk your shells toward the
target, and when you do have it lined up – it WILL have a “Herding Effect”,
Battleships tend to turn and try to get out of line of sight, cruisers tend
to turn around entirely, and all of this helps your team immensely – WHILE
still dealing damage to enemies!
And as a result, I will probably end up KEEPING AFT for my Gearing! I LOVE
using smoke offensively, it allows those pea shooters to really rack up the
hurt! But what’s more, even in my Mahan, but ESPECIALLY in the Gearing –
instead of smoking up and just firing my guns, I send torpedoes, THEN smoke
up and start firing!
Oh, and yet ANOTHER reason to ABSOLUTELY LOVE the Blyskawica: It does all
of this amazingly as well, much like the Mahan but with better guns. And
what I REALLY love about her, is that often, when using smoke offensively,
some ship or another will see the shells flying from the smoke and think it
is a GOOD IDEA to push into the smoke! Well, because Blyskawica reloads her
torpedoes so very quickly, usually by the time any ship pushes to 4km away,
my torpedoes will have been reloaded for a bit, which then puts me in the
position to NUKE whatever fool though it was smart to push into my smoke!
The Mahan is good at this as well, and the Gearing will be AMAZING, being
able to launch torpedoes from smoke while enemies are still 12km away, rain
a hail storm of 127mm shells, and IF someone pushes closer, BOOM!

Apart from perhaps the Deck Armor (and gun turrets) the Pensacola has
ALMOST the exact same armor as the Atlanta!
Comming from the ijn line cruiser, the pensacola fell into familiar
territory for me and one i enjoy the most, basically a somewhat similar
play style as the myoko, similar shell arc, it trade torpedoes for aa, its
even possible to citadel a kongo with that ship
Interesting and informative, thanks. Though you says the 1 million credits
was net, think its a gross figure.
“not very flashy” but “flashy doesn’t matter” erm… then why mention
“flashy”? ; p
“…at least be competitive in the Yorck…”.you should take her for a ride
sometime soon Chase.. just saying
main reason why my mahan has decent average exp, even though it has
mediocre average damage is because of capping points.
I dislike this ship. Coming from the Cleveland its like a step down.
Great money maker. Keep them coming.
Thats mainly come from DD killed, capture 3 base aren’t that much (how I
grind throught Mutsuki). Hence why kill people chose to kill a DD rather
than a BB.
Hilarious. The DD at 2:46. First he cuts the cruiser off, then looks like
he tries to teamkill the same cruiser but misses. How clueless. Thanks for
the video. I love the instructional types, designed to help improve
gameplay.
Great video
Well, I did guess 4000…
Any new captains academy vids coming out?
I just looked at my stats and I found out that my highest exp per game is
also done in a Pensacola. But is that stat I found on the official website
base exp or final exp with all those multipliers affecting?
He was very agressive considering he was playing papercola. Even low
caliber guns shoting AP can pen it easily, so he could be dead soon if
enemy cruisers werent holding back.
For Pensacola is best way stay bit back where it have time to maneuver
incomming fire, be oportunist in shots and seek cover if targeted. You cant
afford get hit(that 3 DDs cost him half hp) too often.
Because its lack torps, theres no need push closer to enemy, reasonable
distance is your friend
I like Pensacola and I don’t find it particularly hard to play. It has
enough armor to prevent citadel penetrations from guns up to 8″ if properly
angled. The guns are great and with 5 able to fire directly foreword it has
more firepower than Myoko or Yorch in a frontal duel or a tail chase.
Unfortunately WG won’t publish the XP values which is a real shame.
TL;DR — watch my pwnage video of when I took my garbage ship into a game
in which my team is good and enemy team is bad.
one thing i see he is doing is firing ap at dd you dont do that he them all
wall ways. how did he get the fine at the end what he hit.
That fucking Kamimaze R is why I don’t sail ships anymore. I do IJN
carriers only and skull fuck any DD I see.
Please do a know your ship on the Colorado ?
Solo Blyska did not play the obj, did not help his team, and got no score.
Useless as an idle BB, thanks to the rest of the team who carry the game
with a 2 ship penalty !
Holy shit. Less then 3 minutes into the game and that friendly DD almost
killed him with torps twice
Dont know, never liked the pensa, actually bad at killing dds compared to
other cruisers, the only pros it has is the AA and its guns can rly punish
broadside cruisers..My usual pensa play is getting raped by 4-5 ships
without any recon from cv.You meet em and you just cant turn away, you do
,you show a broadside and you are dead even faster.I keep informing players
how xp works so they ll focus dds but they just prefer the easy targets to
hit ;/
Cant really say he did an overwhelming job of earning this much of a
victory. The only thing he really did well was choose the right side at the
beginning. Everything else just fell into his lap. 3 DDs to feast on with
one detonating on a secondary hit (I lol’d so hard). The Königsberg ignored
his positioning mistake, the caps were uncontested and the CVs too. He
wasnt sailing well or aiming his shots well either. This is just a game
that shows what can happen if nothing happens to you.
I like the emphasis on what a cruiser’s role is. People don’t understand
how much of an impact and how much of a reward people can have simply by
playing their role, not smacking the BB XP pinata.
When was this 2x credits and 2x xp?
Geez. And they managed to win despite having an AFK Kongo and clue-less
bot-like premium DD sightseeing borders of the map. That is how lemminging
“all team go weeest” ends ;)
did that enemy Farragut pop defensive fire?
How do I switch between torps when there in the water?
and
What do the anchors mean on the end screen?
I loved the Pensacola in the CBT
Pensacola, once again I’m coming to her defence.
She is a hard ship to play, but most rewarding when you get it right. In
fact she is the one US cruiser I bought after reaching Des Moines, because
I felt like there was more fun in her than any other cruiser (save maybe
St. Louis and Albany).
The way to play Pensacola is to constantly look at map and look for
isolated targets, which are NOT Battleships. Whenever you are dealing with
cruisers, load AP, her guns penetrate even at high angles and their citadel
potential is awesome. Since there is a distinct lack of CVs I opted to get
the gun fire modificaion which increases her accuracy even more, and you
can get “laser like” shots even at extreme range.
The second most important thing in Pensacola is learning how to aim. It
might sound rough, but most people suck at aiming, because Pensacola’s
predecessors require only pointing guns in the vague direction of enemy and
firing, if you miss it’s no big deal, you have another salvo in 6 seconds
or so, but in her, if you miss you’re in trouble. From the 10 shells you
fire 6 hits are a must, 8 should be a standard, if you’re aiming at
cruisers and BBs.
Ok so now how to deal with each ship you may encounter.
BBs. Avoid them if you can. If you can’t, look at what tier that BB is, if
it’s lower or you can get plunging fire (DANGER, explained later) stick
with AP. There are Colorados which citadel said Hi to my shells on more
than one occasion, if closer load HE and ALLWAYS wiggle. Staying at exreme
angles helps as well, but be careful not to sail too close, wait for a BB
salvo, then turn around and continue to wiggle and wiggle and wiggle.
Now to the danger. I have bounced BB shells in Pensacola. Don’t ask me how,
but it happened, however the most dangerous thing a BB can do to you (aside
from you showing her broadside, which is your fault) is plunging fire. Any
hit from above is a citadel. Doesn’t matter where the shell hits, it will
penetrate deep.
Cruisers. Hunt those buggers down. Keep your angle and you can laugh at the
enemy because they will not expect bounces from you (especially german
cruisers are yummy) and BE PATIENT. It is no good to blow a salvo on an
enemy who is turning away, look for broadsides and exploit them to the max.
If you know where and how to aim you can get mutliple citadels in one salvo
(usually 2) and after loosing 11K hp any cruiser would think twice about
engaging you again.
DDs. Anticipation is the key here. You can’t reload your guns as fast as
you want to, so load HE in advance. Then you have to learn to lead well.
Don’t zoom all the way in, use the mousewheel to get a bit further, since
the DDs are so fast you might not see what he is doing, when you aim.
Pensacola’s guns are extremely accurate at closer ranges and she can
(assuming that you are at angle where you can fire all your guns) sink a DD
in 1 – 2 salvos or 3 salvos when using only foward guns. Pensacola is also
suprisingly maneuverable and she dodges torpedoes like a boss.
CVs. This is basic… Use AA consumable when there are TB in range and
DON’T FORGET to set TB as main priority for AA, lastly turn like hell into
them even if that means you have to expose your broadside (you’re taking a
chance with the enemy who is shooting at you versus a certanity of a
torpedo hit).
Lastly her secondaries are ok as well, especially if you take the captain
skills that buff them (as well as AA), so if you are in trouble they might
save you bum.
Overall I am in love with this ship. She packs enough punch to be a threat
to every ship she might encounter unlike NY or Baltimore who have to deal
with much larger healthpools than Pensacola and their guns are not much of
an improvement.
Base caps just get you tons of exp, so I don’t find it that surprising. 2
caps on his own and one assist is enough to get you in the top 3 on your
team basically all the time, even if you wouldn’t do any damage at all.
I love the Pensacola once you have mastered her play style she doesn’t
disappoint
There were 2 players in his team who were a good example of what guys you
encounter more often in the last 2 weeks. AFK battlesheep and an idiot DD
running the A line to search for CV instead of capping or spotting.
Heres a tip: Destroying full HP Destroyer and doing 12k dmg is THE SAME XP
as destroying full HP Battleship and doing 55k dmg.
Chase, that Königsberg was most likely a Bot. Standing still until
something got in spotting range.
I love your videos, especially on the information and advices, helped me a
lot to improve my gameplay. Example: I hated the furutuka, but after seing
the videos from your chanel on it, I have come to love it more and make it
a money maker. best part of your videos? how you screw up name pronunciaon
of non-english names 🙂 Cheers from Romania.
There are some hard to play ships out there, so videos of how to improve
your gameplay in them are really useful. Thanks.
Of cause, some ships will just never fit your own gameplay style, so
perhaps when you review a ship, recommend others that have a similar style.
i.e. “If you like this..”
To be fairly honest Chase, PopescuB was very fortunate that the team didn’t
split evenly on the flanks. If anything, the enemy team dug their own grave
by neglecting the flank that PopescuB was on. On the SEA, this situation
would definitely NOT happen. And anything, CAs like him would have been
heavily targeted on the SEA side since they deal the most damage.
Chase I just wanna say ur carrier advice helped me a lot and I wanna thank
you for ur awesome and informative videos ^^
Dear Mr iChase, would you not agree, that the “average WoWs idiot” would
learn more from watching this video, then from watching how you could make
fun of other people’s mistakes, and that your channel and you yourself are
far better suited to teach people on the characteristics and intricacies of
the game in this particular way, then to point and ridicule?
RNG
Yeah the Pensacola is a Great Cruiser I have a bunch of footage that will
be hitting my channel soon showing it, I love the ship.
solo base caps, and cap resets as well as the dd kills got him the bulk of
the xp. this was a good game but nothing fancy
ICHASE :: in his battle PopescuB never got overwhelmed. other than the 3
DDs at the beginning everything seemed to be
1 on 1 during the whole match. but from my memories of the Pensacola I
usually ran into the multiple enemy ships,,
weather there was battleships or not.. so I spent a lot of time sailing
away at a angle as I fired my guns back
at the ships chasing me (kiting). so I think a video showing how to kite
would be more beneficial to Pensacola
players. especially if U end up in a tier 8 or 9 battle with your Pepsi
Let’s see, coming up against multiple destroyers in a cruiser, then a lone
cruiser, and finally two carriers, all while going around capping. Yeah, XP
heaven.
Overall, I find that Pensa plays a lot like Myoko, but without the torps.
Slow but heavy guns. IJN cruiser players have gotten used to it by then,
but for USN cruiser players, it’s a huge difference compared to the
previous ship.
when i remeber now, 2 days ago iplay colorado (oh colorado i realy happy
that i sell him) and i got game with 7-5 lvl, i do a bunch of medals and
have 198k damage by BB’s+some AH damage i got the game! there was only 1
ship 7 lvl, 3 ship 6 lvl and other 5 lvl most of them cruisers and DD’s,
and how much exp i get your think?) with no cap i got 2400 base exp, 2400
base exp Carl, and cruiser who just go and cap some point… im frustrait
in some aspects of game…
Them citadels on the CV lol lucky
I respect IChase as a good player and all that but at one point in the
video he advised coming up slowly with bow pointed at the other cruiser.
Don’t be so afraid to show your sides, it is what your ship was designed to
do even if WG mechanics are little off and make the game to much like WOT.
By showing your side your bringing all guns to bear increasing your
potential damage done or DPS. Just don’t linger!!! Don’t keep going in a
straight line. I have sunk so many ships slowly peeking out showing their
bows and if they are doing the peek a boo, all the better then I can time
my shots to hit then in the right place at the right time. I had a replay
thats no good now due to update, that showed me sinking a new orleans in my
pensacola slowly pointing his bow out from an island, then so many minutes
later an Atlanta decides to do the same, of course I sunk him too. I am not
saying to be careless and ignore the chances of you getting critted from
the side but don’t be paranoid of it that you don’t use your ship’s fire
power to the max either. Judge the risks and roll the dice.
Can say I enjoyed the Pensacola grind more on the live server than I did
during the Beta Test, probably since I was better at the game by that time.
Solid AA and maneuverability along with powerful guns that will absolutely
wreck other cruisers if they give you a broadside. You can even citadel
some battleships if you get close enough on their side. The Pensacola is so
frustrating though because it gets citadel penned from ANY angle,
specifically by battleships of pretty much any tier.
Sorry I forgot to send you dmg screenshoot.I’m so happy,it’s amazing to see
one of your best game on youtube :)
Play the objective, and you get rewarded. Who would of thought…
those points hit the roof there Chase!!! bravo played there. Ps: Still
struggling here….. LOL.
also should add about the pepsi, has horrible detect range – 14.something
km. especially compared to other american cruisers – tier8 New Orleans
12.6, tier6 cleveland around 13. combine that with no armor and made of
citadels and the pepsi as implemented in WoWS is a purpose built floating
target. good firepower for picking on lesser ships but man, forget about
brawling. this thing wishes it was a glass canon, more like a glass handgun.
good choice of replay chase =) i prefer examples of how to do it right as
opposed to how to do it wrong. just solid gameplay can be very profitable.
chasing damage and kills is, indeed, for n00bs.
A very intrigue and enlightening game review. I like the points you made,
doesn’t need to be flashy to both win and score well in both credits and XP.
Hoping someday to play a game I could send you, well a “good” game, got
plenty of fails… lol
Cruiser secondaries detonate a full hp undamaged dd with the first hit,
gotta love the bullshit rng wows has :D
+iChaseGaming since it came up for a moment at the beginning of the video,
the Yorck…any chance for some gameplay in the near future? Because I (and
judging from the ship’s global stats, not just I) have a lot of problems
making that ship work. Even the Karlsruhe felt easier to make work than the
Yorck. Any tips and tricks? I got used to sniping with my German CAs, but
the ballistic arc of the AP shells is horrible, German HE is bad as always
and I’m so squishy that getting close enough for torps is mostly
suicidal…really out of ideas on this one.
I’m pretty sure Citadel hits give you XP and credits, since I once had a
game in my USN DD where I put something like 12 citadels into cruisers in a
game and made a massive amount of XP + credits
I is 4th, and it is not a random number.
my favorite ship cause i live in Pensacola
ichase would are the odd of the Map North popping up
first
